Running Free 4 Miler
Running Free Alaska (RFA) is a non-profit running program for women who are incarcerated at the Hiland Mountain Correctional Center in Eagle River, Alaska.
RFA runners, led by volunteer coaches, participate in training sessions year-around. In May, there are 5K and 10K races and in October there are 5K, 10K, and ½ marathon races. Training is in the gym in the winter. Once the snow melts, training moves outside to a 337 meter dirt track around the prison yard. Races are held inside the 800 meter perimeter of the prison.
When our runners are released from Hiland, they are welcomed and supported into the running community through our Released Runner program.
This fun 4 Miler helps provide additional support and awareness to this valuable program.
