The Finish Line is Back Inside!
The Turkey Trot is just around the corner and we can't wait for this Thanksgiving Day family tradition! And this year you can stay warm before and after in the Dena'ina Center. Bring your family and friends out to run, walk, jog, or hobble on our classic course through downtown Anchorage. With a 5K or a 3K, we have a distance for everyone. Stick around as we give age class winner a fresh pie, then head off to your Thanksgiving dinner!
The Food Bank of Alaska is hosting their Thanksgiving Blessing holiday food distribution event coming on Nov. 18th (Mat-Su) and Nov. 20th (Anchorage). Due to the significant increase in food insecurity this year, they anticipate serving a similar number of families that were served in 2021 – 11,000, and possibly more. This will be an increase of 2,500 families compared to 2022. Additionally, the costs for the event have increased a staggering 35%. In total, this two-day food distribution event will cost almost half a million dollars this year. Ultimately donations have dropped and the food need is up, so we, along with our partner organizations, are struggling to meet the need.
While every additional donation through the Turkey Trot registration page goes directly to the Food Bank of Alaska, if you would like to donate directly to them or find other ways to support this critical organization, visit www.foodbankofalaska.org. Thank you for for support!
We’ll be taking non-perishable food donations at either Skinny Raven from November 18th through November 22nd. Bring in a donation and be entered to win a pair of super grippy Icebug studded footwear. Look for the red barrels and ask a staff member for a ticket. We’ll have extra capacity at the bib pickups to receive your goods right at the bib pickup tables! For a list of the most needed items click here.
